Redruth Albany RFC has signed the Armed Forces Covenant, pledging to be an armed forces friendly organisation. The signing took place at a ceremony in Redruth on Saturday 18 March 2023.

The Armed Forces Covenant focuses on helping members of the armed forces community to have the same access to government and commercial services and products as any other citizen. It is a pledge to acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.

Jon Beake, Regional Employer Engagement Director for Wessex RFCA said; “In addition to agreeing to adhere to the core principles of the Covenant, in that no-one in the Armed Forces community should face disadvantage due to their Service, it is fantastic that Redruth Albany RFC have tailored their Covenant with bespoke pledges that include the provision of free club membership for serving personnel, extended for 12 months following termination of service, and underwriting Armed Forces (and Veteran) member’s costs in acquiring Rugby Football Union qualifications and continuing coaching development.

“They are also offering the hiring of the facilities at Redruth Albany RFC’s Clubhouse free of charge for accredited Armed Forces organisations and charities and 10% discount for both serving personnel and Veterans at the clubhouse bar.

“It truly goes to prove that any business or organisation, even community clubs such as Albany Redruth RFC, can get involved; and we thank them for their support.”

Now in its tenth year, almost 1000 organisations across the South West and over 10,000 nationwide have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, helping to make civilian life more accommodating and removing obstacles and disadvantages service personnel may encounter.
